bookmark_borderIssue 33 – I LOVE YOU A WATT

Hey, Smart Home Pros!

Smart Skills are in the air—I mean love! Love is in the air! But so are new Smart Skills, so have a look below! Also, we need to have “the talk”… Ruh roh! The talk about making sure your networking skills are on point. We’ve done some research and having a solid network could save you a call to tech support. Not that tech support doesn’t love hearing from you, but we thought the Network Best Practices guide would be a lovely way of saying, “We love you guys!”

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Here’s a Tip for You from Mitch at Greenfield Solutions
Mitch used the Room control Driver and the UI Configuration agent.
“The basic premise is when the room enters listen mode, use the UI Configuration agent to change the screensaver. When the room exits listen mode, change the screensaver back. You have to do this for each room’s enter/exit listen, and then you pick the screen you want to customize.”

—Mitch Greenfield

Tips and Tricks for Programming
Have you ever wondered how long your HVAC system runs during the day? Or how many hours your kids watch TV after school? The possibilities are endless with this great tip from Dennis! You da best! Thanks for this one.

HVAC Notification“In the example below, we’re tracking how many minutes our HVAC system runs each day (for both heating and cooling), and getting a notification each night, letting us know how long it’s run for. This same programming concept could easily be adapted to show how long a TV has been on, or a door opened, or you could track pool pump run times, etc. – anything that doesn’t already have a native timer built into the driver…you get the idea…”

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR PROGRAMMING
Thanks to everyone who submitted their tips and tricks to me! I have enough content for the rest of the year. So let’s get crackin! I decided to go with Josh Schinke’s tip first! Josh is from Automation Arts, and he has a good one for all of you!

“One of my favorite things to do that I see get missed a lot is when programming a media room tie the lights into the programming. When the theater turns on have them dim, when you press pause have them brighten, play dims, and off brightens. Then after a few minutes once the room has been turned off and the lights are on have them turn off. Really basic but cool.” – Josh Schinke

IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL CLASSES ARE NOW IN SESSION

Did you know we’ve opened back up in-person classes in the Education portal?! When you go to select a class session location and date, you’ll see it’ll say “In-Person” or “Virtual” right next to it. Make sure to check that before confirming your next session! If you get stuck, you can always shoot us an email at education@control4.com
